Dennis Townsend founded Townsend Capital, LLC in 1975. In 1993, David Townsend joined his father. Together, as Chairman and President, they plan the strategic direction of the Company, which has been both diverse and profitable.
Dennis Townsend was one of the original pioneers in limited partnership syndications, specializing in the structuring and placement of tax advantaged investments in real estate, and oil and natural gas exploration for third party investors. The company evolved into one which focused on investment and developed commercial real estate solely for its own account. Townsend Capital has maintained a substantial real estate portfolio that has included a mix of office, warehouse, industrial, research, institutional and healthcare space.
The fundamental investment philosophy of Townsend Capital is rooted in a deep understanding of macro-economic trends. In late 2006, Townsend predicted that the real estate industry was near its peak, and set a course to divest of the majority of its real estate holdings. With the sale of its primary real estate portfolio in 2007, Townsend Capital turned its focus to various opportunities within the energy fields. These new ventures include the acquisition of Encelium Technologies, a lighting controls company focused on delivering energy savings to commercial properties, significant investments in Kokam Co., Ltd and Kokam America, as well as oil and natural gas exploration in the United States.
